For those interested in delving into the original Hebrew and the deeper "nuances" of it, I came across these excellent sites I am recommending to those that want to peer beneath the "written code" and into the "spiritual code" of that language.
I personally believe Translations are the main stumbling stone within Christianity today becasue how can one accurately interpret the Word of the LORD if it is not also accurately translated?
I hope others find these sites as rewarding as I have and would like thoughts on them. Peace.

Thanks EV. The Hebrew is a more beautifull language than I have ever thought and it was when I was translating Genesis and Isaiah that I was coming across things that one would never notice in the regular english translations of today.

I still like reading the NIV Chronological but it is pretty worn out, so I am hoping it last until that new translation comes out [though I have about a half a dozen other Bibles that are still brand new and were given to me some time back].

Here was my own translation of some of Genesis I did a few months ago and it is actually pretty close to his.

Gene 1:
1 In [a] beginning 'elohiym created/bara' <ath> the Heavens/shamayim and the Land/'erets.
2 and the Land/'erets became to be waste/vain/tohuw and empty/void/bohuw, and darkness on surface of submerged chaos/t@howm, and [a] spirit/ruwach of 'elohiym brooding/rachaph over face/paniym of the waters
3 And 'elohiym is saying, "he shall become Light" and he is becoming Light
4 and 'elohiym is seeing <ath> the Light that good, and Elohim is seperating between the Light and between the Darkness.
5 And 'elohiym is calling to Light/'owr, Day/yowm, and to Darkness/choshek he calls Night/layil , and he is becoming evening and he is becoming morning Day One.
6 and 'elohiym is saying: "he shall become firmanent in midst of the waters and he shall become seperation between waters to waters".
7 and 'elohiym is making/`asah <ath> the firmanent, and he is seperating between the waters which from under to firmanent, and between the waters which from on to firmanent, and he is becoming so.
8 And 'elohiym is calling to firmanent, Heavens, and he is becoming evening and he is becoming morning Day Second.
9 And 'elohiym is saying: "they shall flow together, the water from under the heavens, to one place and she shall appear the Dry", and he is becoming so.
10 And 'elohiym is calling to Dry, Land/'erets, and to confluence of the waters he calls Seas/yam. And Elohim is seeing that Good.
11 And 'elohiym is saying: "the Land shall be sprouting sprouts, herbage seeding seed, tree of fruit making fruit to species of him, whose seed of him in him on the Land", and he is becoming so.
12 And the Land[f] is bringing forth verdure herbage seeding seed to species of him with tree making fruit whose seed of him in him to species of him and 'elohiym is seeing that Good.
13 And he is becoming evening and he is becoming morning Day Third.

Hi ICA
Speaking as a professional translator (even if I pray I never have to fall back on it) the ethos and policy statements behind those translations don't immediately fill me with confidence. I doubt they will produce anything that adds significantly to the best translations - ESV, and amazingly in the OT only, TEV (Good News).

But Christ and Paul clearly didn't believe Translations were the main stumbling stone within Judaism of their day because they never commanded anyone to avoid the Greek OT, which is a whole lot worse as a translation than almost anything today (with the possible exception of the Living Bible). What's more the NT epistles managed to work around some absolute howlers in the LXX that caused significant problems in the early church without once going "You can't trust your Bible, you need to go back to the original Hebrew".

So were the NT writers right or wrong in their pragmatic approach to translations?

Jesus says the barrier between God's word and man's heart is in having "ears to hear". There's a point at which worrying about translations and versions produces diminishing returns.

Thanks for your response. I just put it up for those that might be interested. As far as diminishing returns, that just depends on how deep one wants to delve into the Lord's Book of the Life of the Lamb. :book: What a BOOK!!!!

John 11:48 "If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place/topon <5117> and nation."

Quote

Reve 12:7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael[Daniel 12] and his messengers fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his messengers fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place/ topoV <5117> found for them in heaven any longer.

Reve 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place/ topoV <5117> for them.

"And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his heads the names of blasphemy. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world" (Rev. 13:1,8). According to the Emphatic Diaglott the correct rendering of the latter part of this passage is: "The Book of the Life of the Lamb." Now, what is meant by this term – THE BOOK OF THE LIFE OF THE LAMB? The wise man said, "...of the making of many books there is no end..." (Eccl. 12:12). The book stores are filled to overflowing today with all types of books dealing with every aspect of earthly life. Even in the church world there are books setting forth every kind of viewpoint relating to God, the Bible, doctrine, Christian experience, and church order. However the subject material of most of these books largely contains a message of religious tradition and spiritual death. But God is also producing a book – a book containing a message of life. For the past two millenniums God, by His Holy Spirit, has been writing portions of this Book in the minds and hearts of His people.
