Ok, we've seen some of your favourite Psalms (we'd like to see more - thy're great).
After discussion on song and praise I'd thought I'd see which of the myriad of hymns and songs for giving praise to our Heavenly Father are your favourites...

i will post mine, but lets see yours first.

Ps 100:2  Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

Prov 25:2
" It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter."

Prov 27:17
" Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."

I can't get the first verse of hymn 298 in the black book out of my head. Totally groovy.

Actually I prefer hymn 114 out of the black book at the moment but constantly change my mind. I love the words of this hymn but the tune is a bit chintz.
Housework has been a snap since I realized... "Hey! I'm a guy!".

HYMN 298 (BLACK)
verse 1;

Earth to earth, & dust to dust,
Lord, we own the sentence just;
Head & tongue, and hand & heart,
All in guilt have borne their part;
Righteous is the common doom,
All must moulder in the tomb.

HYMN 114 (BLACK)

Through alll the changes scenes oflife,
In troublea nd in joy,
the praises of my God shall still
my heart and tongue employ

O magnify the Lord with me,
with me exalt His name;
when in distress to Him I called
He to my rescue came.

the hosts of God encamp around
the dwellings of the just;
deliverance He affords to all
who on his succour trust.

Fear Him, ye saints, and you will then
have nothing else to fear;
make you His service your delight
your wants shall be his care.
Prov 25:2
" It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter."

Prov 27:17
" Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."

No!
Some of the hymns from that one haven't been transferred to the green :yucky: hymn book. I was just posting the words of the Hymns that Amanap mentioned.

We use the green and occasionally PTL2.

I was priveledged to see some of the selection process for the new hymn book first hand. the thought and consideration that went into was immense. It took nearly 3 years if Im not mistaken.

So what's your fave Hadassah?
Prov 25:2
" It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter."

Prov 27:17
" Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."

I'll post up a couple of my favourite hymns tomorrow sometime. It's just that i don't often bring the hymnbook to uni!
"I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless i live; yet not i, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which i now live in the flesh i live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
- Gal 2:20

Us yes. We in Panama are several decades behind you lot. We also use the blue book and it is all in Spanish with a lot more upbeat hymns for the Latinos.

Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite should I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it Thine:
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own:
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Prov 27:17
" Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."

*Cough* Sorry for taking a while to answer....too much of a fussy head to jump onto the forum these days.

My favourite hymn is as follows:

We praise thee, Heavenly Father
We thank thee Lord, that still
The Word of Thy salvation
Works out Thy soverign will.
What though we walk in weakness,
Thy strength shall be our stay;
Undaunted by the darkness
We wait the coming day.

We take, O Lord, the token;
Life out of death we see.
Sin and its condemnation.
Love and its victory;
Death that departs in shadow,
Life to the endless days,
Death that is slain forever,
Life that is ever praise.

All righteousness fulfilling,
Our Lord salvation won;
We too would share the blessing
With thy beloved Son;
We too would bring our offering,
Obedience full and free;
Would share the shame and sorrow
To share the victory.

................................................................................

Certainly keeps everything in perspective!! ^_^

Another of my favourites is:

Shall we behold the Promise Land...

Shall we behold the Promise Land
Its streams and long down-trodden dust
Delivered from the alien hand,
And given to the just......

There is more to it but the line of "Delivered from the alien hand" I had a dearly loved brother ruin this hymn for me when he decided to pretend he was an alien and make funny hand movements of being delivered into the alien hand! So everytime I now sing this hymn all I can picture is this brother as an alien! :o :confused:

And yes this well respected brother is one of our main moderators!! :oops:

Speaking of hymns being ruined.

The Manatoulin Youth Conference hymn has a refrain that includes the lines:

"Thou who didst mete, the waters by hand,
Thou who didst measure, the heav'ns with span"

A good friend of mine once commented that he though the last word was "spam", and now, 10 years later I still cannot get this out of my head every time it is sung.

i've got to say none lift me up as much as praising God in hymn 92 in the green book...

-----
immortal, invisible, God only wise
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes
most blessed, most glorious, the ancient of days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise

unresting, unhasting and silent as light,
nor wanting, nore wasting, thou rulest in night
thy justice like mountains high soaring above,
thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love

to all life thou givest, to both great and small
in all life thou livest, the true life of all
we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree
and wither and perish, but nought changes thee

great father of glory, pure father of light
thine angels adore thee, unveiled is their sight
all laud we would render: o help us to see
'tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.
-----

it's a beauty.

And from the Blue book, I like hymn 91,

The race that long in darkness sat,
have seen a gloriuos light,
The people dwell in day who dwelt, in death's surrounding night, ..........

Also Hymn 85.

Behold my servant see him rise,
Exalted in my might,
Him have I chosen and in him,
I place supreme delight....

Hymn 137,

Hark ten thousand thousand voices,
sing the song the song of jubilee,
Earth through all her tribes rejoices,
broke her long captivity.....

Hymn 2

All people that on earth do dwell,
sing to the Lord with Cherful voice,
Him serve in truth His praise forth tell,
come ye before him and rejoice...

I love these ones, as well as what the rest of you guys have also put down.
1Cor 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus,
Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua.

My new favourite has to be hymn 357 in the green book - I'll be picking it tommorow when presiding because it's so encouraging.

Take courage, my brother,
  And be not fainthearted,
Let none of your sorrow
  Nor trials impede,
But reach forth your hand and
  Remember your brother,
Forget all your troubles
  In meeting his need.

Be thankful, my brother,
  For God has provided,
Much more than you need from
  His bountiful store;
For God's hand is open,
  His love is unbounding,
And, should you require it,
  There soon will be more.

Be prayerful my brother,
  And look to your Maker,
He's promised to help you
  And waits for your call;
Just tell Him your trouble,
  He is the Almighty,
There's nothing too big and
  There's nothing too small.

Be joyful, my brother,
  A new day is dawning,
And brighter and fairer
  That morning will be;
So join with all voices
  And sing loud hosannas,
The Saviour is coming
  To make us all free.

We bow down...

To be in your presence...

A new commandment...

Fill thou me life...

Was it for me thy flesh was wounded sore...
&
High over lashing waves...
-That LGS, now he knew how to write lyrics.

Throughly wash me...
...be imitators of God as dearly loved children and live in love...

I really like "Loved of God in sorrow mourning"
My favorite is hymn 151 in the green and 101 in the black "Lord of All being Throned Afar"
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me...Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:1, 27

Reformation Now!!
The reformation starts with you. If you have something hindering you: name it and nail it

If it quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, flies like a duck...it's probably a duck. If you talk like the world, act like the world, live like the world...you are in the world.

Take some responsibility for your life because you will have to answer for it.

It starts in the heart and in the home

i dont think that one is in the blue book :eek:
"Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." {Phil. 3:12-14}
