Here's the verse:
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an donkey, and upon a colt the foal of an donkey. (KJV, Zech 9:9)
The four Hebrew words in question are:
donkey [02543] chamowr
colt [05895] `ayir
foa [01121] ben
donkey [0860] 'athown
Can anyone offer any insight into the meanings of these Hebrew words that might help prove Zechariah is talking about two animals? I seem to recall reading an article that implied 'chamowr' only refers to a donkey that's used to carrying burdens, in contrast to 'ayir' which implies a donkey that's never been ridden. Is there any truth in this?
I might be totally off base with this whole issue so I'd like to get my facts straight before I tackle this topic in less-then-friendly forums
