Objectives
CBM (SA) was
officially started in July 1997. The main objective of CBM(SA) is
to do mission work within South Africa itself, as well as mission
work in our neighboring countries where CBM(UK) is not involved.
These countries include Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland. It
is also our objective to help in other neighboring countries where
CMB(UK) is already involved as opportunities arise or help is requested.
In this area we have already been involved with mission work in
Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Such work is however undertaken
in liaison with the different linkmen of CBM(UK) for these countries.
Activities
Our activities
to spread the Gospel mainly focus on three areas i.e.
1. Correspondence courses in English, Afrikaans, Portuguese,
and several other languages spoken by the black people of South
Africa ( Venda, Zulu, Tswana, Xhosa, Shangaan Sotho.)
2.Visits. Visits to students who are interested and/or show
potential are undertaken. In the past two years visits to, Swaziland,
Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana and various areas in South Africa
were undertaken.
3. Translations There is a great need to have literature
available in the different languages that are spoken in the areas
where CBM(SA) are active. The 22 lesson CBM course has been translated
into Zulu, Xhosa, Venda, Sotho, and Shangaan. Shangaan is spoken
in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa and we are delighted to
have been able to complete this work quite recently. The 40 lesson
Bible Course, various pamphlets and Bible Basics have also been
translated into Afrikaans. 2000 Copies of this translation has been
printed. There is a need to have a substantial work like Bible Basic
available to use as a follow up course for Afrikaans students who
show potential. Bible Basics has also been translated into Tsepedi
( Sotho) as well as some chapter being translated into Venda.
