Messiah
/anointed in the Old Testament
Psalms
2v2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers
take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed,
saying,
Psalms
45v7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness:
therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of
gladness above thy fellows.
Psalms
89v20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil
have I anointed him:
Isaiah
61v1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the
LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek;
he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim
liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to
them that are bound;
61v2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the
day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
61v3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto
them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment
of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be
called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that
he might be glorified.
Daniel
9v24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and
upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make
an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and
to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the
vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
9v25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth
of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto
the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore
and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall,
even in troublous times.
9v26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut
off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that
shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the
end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the
war desolations are determined.
The
Suffering Messiah
Psalms
22v1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art
thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
22v2 O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not;
and in the night season, and am not silent.
22v3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises
of Israel.
22v4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst
deliver them.
22v5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted
in thee, and were not confounded.
22v6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised
of the people.
22v7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out
the lip, they shake the head, saying,
22v8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let
him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
22v9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst
make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.
22v10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God
from my mother's belly.
22v11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is
none to help.
22v12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan
have beset me round.
22v13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening
and a roaring lion.
22v14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out
of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst
of my bowels.
22v15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue
cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust
of death.
22v16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked
have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
22v17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
22v18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon
my vesture.
22v19 But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength,
haste thee to help me.
22v20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the
power of the dog.
22v21 Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me
from the horns of the unicorns.
Isaiah
53v1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the
arm of the LORD revealed?
53v2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and
as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness;
and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should
desire him.
53v3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows,
and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces
from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
53v4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows:
yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
53v5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised
for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon
him; and with his stripes we are healed.
53v6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every
one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity
of us all.
53v7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened
not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and
as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not
his mouth.
53v8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall
declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land
of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
53v9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich
in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was
any deceit in his mouth.
53v10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him
to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin,
he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the
pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
53v11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be
satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify
many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
53v12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great,
and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he
hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with
the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession
for the transgressors.
Daniel
9v26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah
be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince
that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;
and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end
of the war desolations are determined.
Zechariah
12v10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon
the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications:
and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they
shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and
shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness
for his firstborn.
The
Coming King

Samuel 7v12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt
sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee,
which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish
his kingdom.
7v13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish
the throne of his kingdom for ever.
7v14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit
iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with
the stripes of the children of men:
7v15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took
it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
7v16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established
for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for
ever.
Psalms
72v1 Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness
unto the king's son.
72v2 He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy
poor with judgment.
72v3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the
little hills, by righteousness.
72v4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save
the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
72v5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure,
throughout all generations.
72v6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as
showers that water the earth.
72v7 In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance
of peace so long as the moon endureth.
72v8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from
the river unto the ends of the earth.
72v9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him;
and his enemies shall lick the dust.
72v10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents:
the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
72v11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations
shall serve him.
72v12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor
also, and him that hath no helper.
72v13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the
souls of the needy.
72v14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence:
and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
72v15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the
gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually;
and daily shall he be praised.
72v16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon
the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like
Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of
the earth.
72v17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued
as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations
shall call him blessed.
72v18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only
doeth wondrous things.
72v19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the
whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.
72v20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

earth.

safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE
LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Jeremiah
30v8 For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the
LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck,
and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve
themselves of him:
30v9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their
king, whom I will raise up unto them.
Ezekiel
37v24 And David my servant shall be king over them; and
they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in
my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.
37v25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto
Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they
shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their
children's children for ever: and my servant David shall be
their prince for ever.
Micah
5v2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little
among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come
forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings
forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
5v3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she
which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his
brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
5v4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD,
in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall
abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
Zechariah
9v9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter
of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just,
and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon
a colt the foal of an ass.
9v10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the
horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off:
and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion
shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to
the ends of the earth.
Matthew
2v2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?
for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship
him.
Christ
in the New Testament
Matthew
2v4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and
scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where
Christ should be born.
Matthew
22v41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus
asked them,
22v42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They
say unto him, The son of David.
22v43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call
him Lord, saying,
22v44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
22v45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
Mark
15v32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the
cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified
with him reviled him.

John
7v26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing
unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very
Christ?
7v27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ
cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
7v28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying,
Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come
of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
7v29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
7v30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on
him, because his hour was not yet come.
7v31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When
Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this
man hath done?
Acts
2v29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of
the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and
his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
2v30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn
with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according
to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
2v31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ,
that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did
see corruption.
2v32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
2v33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and
having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost,
he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
2v34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith
himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right
hand,
2v35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
2v36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly,
that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified,
both Lord and Christ.
Acts
9v20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues,
that he is the Son of God.
9v21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not
this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem,
and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them
bound unto the chief priests?
9v22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded
the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very
Christ.
Acts
26v22 Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue
unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying
none other things than those which the prophets and Moses
did say should come:
26v23 That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the
first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light
unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
The
Lamb of God
John
1v29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and
saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of
the world.
1v36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold
the Lamb of God!
Acts
8v32 The place of the scripture which he read was this,
He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb
before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
8v33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who
shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the
earth.
8v34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee,
of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some
other man?
8v35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture,
and preached unto him Jesus.
1
Peter 1v18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed
with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain
conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1v19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without
blemish and without spot:
1v20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of
the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
1v21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from
the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might
be in God.
Revelation
5v5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold,
the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed
to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
5v6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and
of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood
a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven
eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all
the earth.
5v7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of
him that sat upon the throne.
5v8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four
and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every
one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which
are the prayers of saints.
5v9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take
the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain,
and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred,
and tongue, and people, and nation;
5v10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and
we shall reign on the earth.
5v11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round
about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number
of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands
of thousands;
5v12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was
slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength,
and honour, and glory, and blessing.
